Because of the unforeseeable challenges and complications that often arise, it is practically impossible to predict the total cost of a "typical" Family Law action. For this reason, and because every case is unique, Mr. Bors offers a free, 20-30 minute consultation to help you assess your particular situation.
Typically, Mr. Bors asks for a minimum retainer, the amount of which depends upon the nature of the matter and its anticipated complexity. Also, a trust account deposit is usually required, to cover filing fees and other out-of-pocket costs. If other experts (e.g., psychologists, social workers, appraisers, forensic accountants) are needed, out-of-pocket costs may be considerably higher.
Normally, it is both legal and proper to use Community Property funds (i.e., joint-account funds) to pay reasonable attorney fees in order to retain legal counsel in a Family Law action. Also, the Court normally has jurisdication to order one spouse to pay all or part of the other spouse's attorney fees and costs, if appropriate.
In exceptional cases, Mr. Bors may accept payment of the minimum retainer in not more than three monthly installments.
